The project aims to invest 50 million in climate change companies; it also partners with Toyota, Microsoft, and Sacca
The Spanish family office Kiatt takes a step forward in its investment strategy and launches a venture capital vehicle under the name Kiatt Earth Ventures. Through this company, it will make investments worth 50 million euros in the coming years in projects aimed at mitigating climate change through environmental technology and sustainability.
The first of the fund’s investments, which is present in 35 countries, has already taken place and has been made with the help of large institutional investors such as Breakthrough Energy Ventures, founded by Bill Gates in 2015 to accelerate innovation in sustainable energy and other technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; Toyota Ventures – venture capital arm of Toyota Motor –; Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund – a $1 billion vehicle launched by Microsoft in 2020 to accelerate the development and deployment of new climate innovations relevant to the company’s core business and that of its customers; and Lowercarbon Capital, Chris Sacca’s fund that invests in technologies to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere.
First investment
This vehicle has already carried out the first of the investments as a starting signal, the entry into Yard Stick, a technology that measures soil carbon instantly and economically, allowing billions of tons of carbon to be eliminated annually through sustainable agricultural practices. Yard Stick uses stratification and sampling techniques to reduce costs and maintain scientific accuracy, providing a more precise representation of carbon stocks in different soil strata.
“This reinforces our vision that profitability is not at odds with environmental protection, and the fact that we are invited to participate in such closed investment clubs and together with partners like those we have for this operation is a great source of pride for us. “says Manuel Fuertes, CEO of Kiatt.
