We meet with Manuel Fuentes, CEO of Kiatt, single family office that manages its assets with its own methodology and bets on the professionalization of the sector after 20 years of experience investing in science and technological based projects.
You are not a typical Single-Family Office. What makes you different?
Our differentiating factor is the professionalization of a very specific form of investment within scientific venture capital. Our company search process is more similar to that of a search fund, but with the connotations of a high technological and scientific component and within a Saxon-style single family office structure due to our beginnings, closely linked to the University of Oxford. The main characteristic that differentiates us is our professionalised Family Office structure with more than 20 years of experience.
Learned at Oxford, our methodology is unique in the market, and we combine it with the know-how that comes from more than two decades managing our own assets.
In addition, we are present in more than 15 countries such as the United States, Switzerland, England, Commonwealth countries and, above all, we have a strong presence in Asia.
Furthermore, at Kiatt we allocate a large amount of resources so as to be experts in a certain sector, to have a deep knowledge of the subject, the market, and of the challenges to be addressed. We continue with an active search for scientific and technological solutions, a search to solve the greatest challenges of our time and for that we invest in the most privileged minds of our time, as well as the intellectual property that these generate. This requires a deep analysis and rigorous science, knowing where to invest, what projects will be really profitable and which ones will change the course of humanity.
We have a multidisciplinary team, with great experience and that, together with a solid, direct international structure, gives us vision, knowledge and facilitates both relationships and investments outside our borders with quality partners. This is, for example, the case of Yard Stick, with our vehicle investor Kiatt Earth Venture, which has allowed us to invest with partners of the level of Chris Sacca or Bill Gates. After years managing our own assets, we are sure that professionalization is key to grow a family asset.
What are you currently investing in? Why?
At Kiatt we address society’s greatest challenges by investing in scientific and technological-based projects and in the most privileged minds of our time, as well as in the intellectual property they generate. At the same time, we are aware that technology-based Venture Capital is a complex investment asset, and it is necessary to be accompanied by the best professionals, who have knowledge and experience.
”At Kiatt we direct a large amount of resources towards being experts in a certain sector, having a deep knowledge of the subject, the market, the challenges to be addressed.”
Being a Single Family Office, our investments are flexible and our capital is patient. We actively search around the world for projects that we believe in and that are also very profitable.
Currently, more than 52 industries are present in our investment portfolio, industries such as Climate Tech and sustainability, agri-food of the future; AI & cybersecurity; health and quality of life, to name a few.
What does investing with values mean to you? Is it profitable?
At Kiatt we are convinced of the transformative power of private capital, but the investment must be conceived from a humanistic point of view, with the person at the center, and always oriented towards the achievement of a greater good, which has ethical guarantee and social impact. When investing in scientific and technological Venture Capital we must carefully weigh what impact it will have on people’s lives in the future, since an investment today can change the tomorrow of humanity. We firmly believe that the values of your family legacy should be directly imprinted on the investments you make.
Regarding whether it is profitable to invest in securities, absolutely yes, but at Kiatt we also understand the concept of profitability beyond mere economic analysis. In the analysis of our investments we include humanism, respect for life, effort, integrity or patience as differentiating elements, and by placing people at the center of the investment strategy, we also seek a return in terms of social impact, beyond the purely economic one.
This is, for example, the case of Benvira, a company that, thanks to AI, Big Data and sensors, can predict accidents in factories by knowing when a machine is going to break. Yes, a technology that helps to be more profitable and effective, to not lose money, but what is vital in these cases: it helps save lives by avoiding tragedies. That is technology with social impact. Those are the projects in which Kiatt invests.yuda a salvar vidas evitando tragedias. Eso es tecnología con impacto social. Esos son los proyectos en los que invierte Kiatt.
